Analysis Of Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee - 1175 Words

To Kill a Mockingbird the novel, displays the importance of courage, conscience and conviction in a small town of Maycomb set in the 1930’s where the roles of racism and prejudice are evident through characters and symbolism. The main themes are expressed through Scout’s point of view and the reader sees how her youth and naiveness reflects how she sees the world around her. Scout Finch a young girl and the daughter of the lawyer defending Tim Robinson, an african-american who is accused of raping Mayella Ewell. Prejudice is used through various characters and themes which reflects the town Maycomb during this time. Initially, Scout was unable to see this. The novel written by Harper Lee explores South America during the great depression and how good and evil can coexist in many individuals, particularly those living in Scout’s street. Firstly, courage is made apparent through the character of Mrs. Dubose. Atticus Finch believes that Scout and Jem need to know different kinds of courage which was one of the life lessons he intended to impact their lives. Lee includes the character, Mrs. Dubose as part of an ongoing theme, initially appearing in the background but becoming more noticeable through Jem’s character development. This is a theme of courage to see the good in those who have irritable outward behaviours and prejudice to those we don’t full understand. Table 4 indicates the number patients that consider staying at the medical hotel every time they have to visit the clinic. There are 28 patients that have answered â€Å"Yes†. Most of them preferred due to convenience, easy access to clinic, less stress and hassle, less travel, and safety. I have a relatively large family, and by large I mean there are six of us kids. I am of course, the baby. There’s normally two opinions towards being the baby of the family:you either love it because you get the most attention, or you hate it because you’re the one that gets picked on the most. Personally, I despised being the youngest and being picked on, and wanted nothing more than a little brother or sister. I was seven when Devin was born. Every day I watched him bring my family closer and closer together. He was such a happy baby and it was incredible to see, I was honored to be his big sister. But as much as I hate to say it, some things are too good to be true. At two months, we lost Devin to SIDS. I was too young at the time to understand Sudden Infant Death and how it worked and personally, I was sad and confused. My family almost instantly fell apart. I had never seen so much hurt in one home. It was like a tornado came in destroyed every ounce of our life and the happiness it contained. My brother, who was ten at the time, tried to explain it to me. I still didn’t understand how a perfectly healthy baby could just be taken like that, but I was beyond hurt. It just wasn’t fair. Why him and why us? After eleven years, the loss of Devin is still an incredibly touchy subject for my family. We don’t speak of him and his impact on our lives was almost completely shut out because of something we had no control over. But you must look for the positive rather than let the negative drag you down. Devin may not have been around for long, and the memory of him is dim, but despite that he taught me a very powerful lesson. My baby brother Devin, at only two months old, taught me the importance of life. We have no control over life, but we do have control over how we live it. I’ve learned that life is precious and should never be taken for granted and neither should the people around you. Live every day like it could possibly be your last, for today is a gift and tomorrow is not promised. Because of Devin, I will forever keep this lesson, and him, close to my heart.

Life and Art of Charles Demuth, Precisionist Painter Charles Demuth (November 8, 1883 – October 23, 1935) was an American Modernist painter best known for his use of watercolor to portray the industrial and natural landscapes of his Pennsylvania hometown. Painting in His Own Backyard Though he traveled to and was influence by exotic locales, Demuth painted most of his art in the second-story studio of his Lancaster home, which overlooked a garden. In the painting My Egypt (1927), Demuth depicted a grain elevator, a massive structure used to store the harvest, next to row house rooftops. Both structures are common in the rich agriculture economy and historic urban setting of Lancaster County. Like many of his contemporaries in the arts, Demuth was fascinated with Americas landscape, which was being altered at the hands of industrialism. He saw firsthand the smokestacks and water towers in cities such as Philadelphia, New York and Paris. He painted those skylines and contrasted them with grain elevators that were common in his hometown. The Precisionist Style The movement to which Demuth belonged, Precisionism, stressed visual order and clarity in the visual arts and combined those facets with a celebration of technology and expression of speed through dynamic compositions, according to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Demuth and his fellow Precisionists painted distinctly American landscapes in an intentional move to distance themselves from European artists. Demuths most famous work is a 1928 oil painting called I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold, which has been described as a masterpiece of the Precisionism movement. The painting was inspired by the poem The Great Figure by William Carlos Williams. Williams, who had met Demuth at Philadelphias Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, wrote the famous poem after watching a fire engine speed by on a Manhattan street. The developments seen in the dynamic characters are astounding ones. The theme, or motif, which I'm going to follow through the story is that of Fezzik and his quest for self confidence and a good self image. From the time that the novel starts to the end, Fezzik achieves a good self image. Little by little Colonists found ways to protest against the british army and the king of England. King George III applied unlawful taxes, to control colonists lives. There was many ways king George III tried to control the lives of the colonists. For Example there is this famous slogan which was â€Å"No Taxation Without Representation†, this was because Parliament had control of colonial trade, taxed imports, and exports. By the 1760s, the Americans were getting a right taken away from them. The English Bill of Rights of 1689 had forbidden the imposition of taxes without the consent of Parliament. Since the colonists had nobody representing in Parliament, the taxes violated the guaranteed Rights of Englishmen. He thought it was necessary for most of the taxes he pasted in order for the Country of Britain not to go bankrupt after the win of the â€Å"seven years† war which doubled Britains dept . One of the laws passed was the stamp act. The stamp act was a direct tax by Parliament specifically targeting the colonies of British America, and it required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper produced in London. There was many acts that angered the colonists and eventually made them revoke against Parliament. hese were some of the causes of the American Revolution . The Intolerable acts were a response to the famous boston tea party. there was four acts that got the 13 colonies heated. The Boston Port Act, was the first of the acts passed, which consisted of closing the port of Boston until the East India Company had been repaid for the tea dumped in the water and until the king was satisfied that order had been restored. Colonists argued that the Port Act punished all of Boston rather than just the individuals who had destroyed the tea. The Massachusetts Government Act altered the government of Massachusetts to bring it under control of the British government. Almost all positions in the colonial government were to be given orders by the governor or the king. This act also limited the activities of town meetings in Massachusetts to one meeting a year, unless the Governor arranged one. Colonists outside Massachusetts feared that their governments could now also be changed by Parliament. The Administration of Justice Act allowed the governor to move trials of accused royal officials to another colony or even to Great Britain if he believed the official could not get a fair trial in Massachusetts. George Washington called this the â€Å"Murder Act† because he believed that it allowed British officials to harass Americans and escape justice. The Quartering Act applied to all of the colonies, it was method of housing British troops in America. King George did indeed applied several laws that got the colonists angry. Another famous event was the â€Å"Boston Tea Party†, in that event officials in Boston refused to return three ships loaded with taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists dressed as indians boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor, the incident remains an iconic event of American history. In response to the taxes many people let out their anger on the tax collectors. Sometimes it was just a scare but in some cases they were murdered. The continental congressed passed an association act which allowed colonists to boycott British goods, it was effective while it lasted. If Britain did not tax or governed the colonies how they did, we would be living in a much different world. Maybe we wouldn't have even been the United States of America. He is so comfortable in their capabilities that he will delegate to them tasks which he usually carries out himself. When regular seminars take place and employees are asked to give their ideas on how to run the company and improve its progress they will surely bring out powerful ideas which will transform the employees into thinkers and provide ample space so that the members will feel that they can propel the public venture from their own angle, particular point of view. While it revolves around pollution and other factors, the basic principle stems from the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is a natural process resulting from various atmospheric components like water vapor and carbon dioxide trapping the Sun’s energy in the lower atmosphere (Gille). This trapped energy causes the Earth’s temperature to rise. Without this process, the global temperature would be a frigid 10 degrees below zero (Salmon).
